About Our School
Trimley St Mary Primary School is situated in the village of Trimley St Mary on the outskirts of Felixstowe. Our larger than average community school, dates back from 1904 and has grown as the village has grown with a strong sense of belonging care and support. Our school is a friendly and welcoming setting, fostering strong community links, which works closely with families and other agencies to support all children to achieve and be successful in their own right.
We currently have 389 children on roll aged 4-11, organised into two parallel classes per year group. Teachers work together in three teams sharing expertise and resources. This ensures that children get the very best deal. Collaboration across our school is a key feature for both children and adults. We all belong to “ Team Trimley.”
We are proud of our school environment, inspiring children to learn through an engaging and meaningful curriculum, acquiring learning for life skills which reflect our core purpose. We are a learning community providing opportunities to learn outside of the school day accessible by children and families. Working in partnership with home, through Termly Learning Together sessions and weekly Reading Challenges we encourage learning through every opportunity. The school works closely with families to support children to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential, personalising aspects and making adjustments to support inclusion.
The school’s key values of respect, co-operation and tolerance, permeate throughout. Our inclusive school promotes equality for all, celebrates diversity and tackles discrimination in any form. We aim to prepare children to be successful citizens who are socially aware, acknowledge the culture and beliefs of others and who understand their responsibilities now and into the future.
Through our Entitlement and Curriculum Policy we have devised a curriculum that is engaging and purposeful; one with a focus upon the development of skills required in each subject, as well as age- appropriate knowledge. Opportunities to learn are planned from the National Curriculum alongside our 8C’s curriculum and are often topic based approaches. By linking subjects and experiences children approach units of work and develop skills over a period of time. Learning is presented with different levels of challenge but with every opportunity to demonstrate mastery. At the start of each unit of work, a planned “Brilliant Beginning” hooks children into their learning and a “Fabulous Finisher” enables children to show case and self- assess what they have achieved and celebrate this with their families.
We are proud of our school, our learning environment and our willingness to embrace challenges. We celebrate commitment and independence and instil positivity. We know that learning can sometimes be very hard work, which is way we always try our very best and remember our school message…
