Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2
Successful reading is not simply the mechanical process of ‘decoding’ text. Questions before, during and after reading help children to gain a better understanding of the text they are reading. Good readers approach a text with good questions and think of new questions as they read. Some children can find this difficult and are sometimes reluctant to talk about the book they are reading. We have included some questions you may like to ask your child when they are reading with you, in order to develop their comprehension skills. It is not intended that all questions are asked – why not try selecting a few each time. Your continued support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
